Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about how the Wedding Regret Index works and how to read the results.

General
What is the Wedding Regret Index?

The Wedding Regret Index is an aggregated dataset built from anonymous post-wedding surveys. It highlights spending categories couples most often regret, say were worth it, or rank as their biggest expenses.

Who is this for?

It’s for couples planning a wedding who want realistic perspective — especially when deciding where money matters most to them.

Is this telling me what I should or shouldn’t spend on?

No. The index does not give prescriptive advice. It shows patterns from hindsight so you can weigh them against your own priorities.

Anonymity & privacy
Is the survey really anonymous?

Yes. We do not ask for names, emails, vendor names, or identifying details. Responses are only published in aggregated form.

Can my individual response be seen?

No. Individual responses are never displayed or shared publicly. Only aggregated summaries and statistics are shown.

Do you track me across other sites?

No. We do not use advertising trackers or cross-site tracking. Any technical data collected is minimal and used only for abuse prevention.

Survey questions
Why can I only pick up to three regrets or worth-it items?

Limiting selections forces prioritization. This helps surface stronger signals and avoids everything being marked as “a little bit” regretful or worth it.

Why do I have to choose intensity (1–5)?

Intensity helps distinguish mild regret from strong regret and mild satisfaction from strong satisfaction. This improves the usefulness of aggregated results.

What does “Top spend” mean?

Top spend refers to the categories where you spent the most money relative to your overall budget. Ranking them helps show where wedding budgets are most concentrated.

Interpreting results
Does high regret mean something was a bad choice?

Not necessarily. High regret often reflects mismatched expectations, changing priorities, or hindsight bias — not vendor quality or personal failure.

Can results change over time?

Yes. Early findings may shift as more responses are added. We label small sample sizes to avoid over-interpretation.

Is this statistically scientific?

The index is descriptive, not experimental. It shows patterns in real experiences but does not make causal claims.

Vendors & fairness
Does this rank or criticize specific vendors?

No. The survey is category-based only. No vendor names, venues, or companies are collected or displayed.

Can vendors influence the results?

No. The Wedding Regret Index is not sponsored by vendors and does not accept paid placement or influence over findings.

Could this hurt wedding professionals?

The goal is not to criticize professionals but to help couples align spending with what mattered most to them in hindsight.

Still have questions?

If something is unclear, the best way to understand the project is to explore the methodology or contribute a response yourself.
