Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. This policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and the steps we take to protect anonymity.

Overview

The Wedding Regret Index is built around anonymous, aggregated data. We intentionally limit what we collect so individual respondents cannot be identified.

By using this site or submitting a survey response, you agree to the practices described below.

Information we collect
Survey responses

When you submit the survey, we collect the answers you provide, which may include:

  • General wedding context (e.g., wedding type, region, budget range)
  • Spending reflections (regret, worth-it, top spend categories)
  • Optional outcome scores (stress and satisfaction)
  • Optional free-text comments

We do not ask for names, email addresses, vendor names, or other direct identifiers.

Technical and anti-abuse data

To protect the integrity of the dataset and reduce spam, we may collect limited technical data:

  • A short user-agent string (browser/device type)
  • A one-way cryptographic hash of the IP address
  • Basic submission timestamps
IP addresses are never stored in plain text. The hash cannot be reversed to identify you.
What we do not collect
  • Names, email addresses, or phone numbers
  • Vendor names, venue names, or exact locations
  • Payment information
  • Account credentials

If you choose to include identifying information in optional comment fields, we recommend removing it before submitting.

How we use information
  • To compute aggregated regret, worth-it, and spending patterns
  • To improve the clarity and usefulness of published findings
  • To detect spam, duplicate submissions, or abuse

We do not sell, rent, or trade survey data.

Data sharing

Survey responses are only published in aggregated form. Individual responses are never displayed or shared publicly.

We may share high-level summaries or statistics (e.g., charts or averages), but these cannot be traced back to any individual submission.

Cookies and tracking

The Wedding Regret Index does not use advertising cookies.

We may use minimal, essential cookies required for site functionality or security. These cookies do not track you across other websites.

Data retention

Survey data is retained to allow long-term analysis and trend tracking.

Because responses are anonymous, we are generally unable to locate or remove individual submissions after they are aggregated.

Children’s privacy

This site is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

This privacy policy may be updated as the project evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
